Our Story
Helo a Croeso · Hello & Welcome!
We are a small business based on Anglesey, North Wales. We are a couple who have a passion for re-homing vintage items and absolutely love treasure hunting in order to share beautiful collections of ceramics, brassware, tableware and curios for your home.
Hiraeth, Welsh noun, pronounced: [HEER] + [EYE] + [TH]
Hiraeth is a Welsh word that I have always connected with, a word that is most commonly translated as ‘nostalgia’ but often gets lost in translation because it’s so much more than that.
Hiraeth’ refers to a longing or yearning for people and places that make you feel at home. It refers to a feeling, the little things that we do everyday that become our routines, it’s a word that sparks conversation about ‘home’ and therefore, has a different meaning for everyone, which is why we can use this word to connect with each other, talk about our pasts, and what the notion of ‘home’ means to us.
For me, it describes a feeling, I think of growing up by the seaside, of the things that have shaped my ideas of home, it refers to the making of a domestic space and remembering my roots. It’s different for everyone, but it brings us all together. It reminds me of the day when I first went to an antique shop with my granddad and made my first purchase and have been hooked ever since! And so, It’s indicative of making our homes a space that we love, with objects that are unique and personal to our taste and style. ‘Hiraeth Vintage’ or Vintage Nostalgia illustrates our love for sourcing pre-loved objects and playing a part in the journey of finding them new homes.
The little cottage design on our logo is a drawing we made of my grandad's old farmhouse, the place I feel the most Hiraeth for, this just had to be part of our brand.
