A beautiful piece of 19th-century English ironwork, this hand-forged wrought iron candle snuffer is both sculptural and deeply practical, a simple, timeworn tool designed for everyday life in cottages and farmhouses of the Victorian era.
Crafted by a blacksmith, the long slender handle, decorative collars, and hooked end show the quiet artistry of traditional forging. The cone-shaped extinguisher cup was used to gently snuff out candle flames without smoke or soot, and the generous length allowed it to reach wall sconces and chandeliers with ease.
Today, it makes a wonderfully atmospheric addition to the home, hang it from a peg rail in the kitchen, style it beside a hearth and use it as part of your candle rituals. Its rich patina and tactile wear tell the story of many evenings illuminated by candlelight.
