A rare and complete 1930s Monopoly set, manufactured in Great Britain by John Waddington Ltd. under Patent No. 453689 (1936). (This patent number was registered in 1936, which dates this set circa 1936- early 1940s).
This beautifully preserved edition features wooden playing pieces, original paper money, property cards, and Chance/Community Chest cards, and classic early-issue typography.
A charming piece of history, this set once belonged to a child named Howard Davies, who lovingly signed the inside of the box in neat handwriting—offering a tangible connection to its past owner.
Notably, the original wooden tokens include unique, hand-painted cutouts, a wartime-era adaptation due to metal shortages. This version of Monopoly is a true collector’s piece, reflecting both the evolution of the game and the social history of the time.
Vintage Condition: Complete with all original components, including money, 2 Bakelite dice, property cards, Chance & Community Chest cards, houses, hotels and instructions. It doesn’t come with a board. The box and pieces show expected signs of age but remain in excellent playable condition.
A wonderful addition to any vintage games collection or a nostalgic investment in gaming history.
