A rare and exceptionally detailed antique Indian grater, hand-foraged from solid brass and finished with hand-riveted copper nails that have aged to perfection. Crafted in a turtle-like form with four petite rounded feet, this piece was designed to rest flat while in use, but now makes a beautiful decorative object, full of timeworn soul and storytelling texture. Perfectly usable for its intended purpose if desired. A beautiful example of 19th century folk art and craftsmanship.
It features two grating surfaces, each with unique punched patterns for preparing spices, root vegetables or cheeses. The surface patina has deepened over the years into a rich, brassy tone with hints of verdigris, we have lightly polished this piece and added a simple green gingham ribbon for hanging on a kitchen wall or rail.
A rare and tactile find, equally at home styled in a rustic kitchen, layered gallery wall, or folk-inspired corner of your home.
