A wonderful antique glazed stoneware cream pot by Applim Barrett, stamped to the front with its original maker’s mark. This is a particularly lovely example as the stamp still remains very clear.
Finished in a deep, glossy treacle-brown glaze, this pot has a beautiful weight and softness to it and the stamp reads “Applin Barrett Ltd - Western Counties Creameries - Yeovil, Marston & Westbury”, grounding it firmly in the working dairy history of the West Country.
Once used to hold cream, it now lends itself beautifully to life beyond the dairy: styled as a small vase, brush pot, or to hold matches. The glaze has pooled and softened over time, with subtle variations that catch the light and add depth and character.
