A beautifully preserved pocket-sized guide, Golf in a Nutshell is a concise and practical exposition of the game, written under the pseudonym “Ignotus” and published by the Offices of Country Life in London and by George Newnes, Ltd. This edition, printed by Hazell, Watson and Viney, is believed to be the first, published in 1919 (as noted in Roman numerals on the title page).
Its striking deep green paper cover with bold red typography is a classic example of early 20th-century British book design. Inside, you’ll find pages speckled with timeworn foxing—each mark a quiet testament to its age and journey.
A wonderful piece for any golf enthusiast, vintage sports book collector, or lover of old paper and print. Lovely styled on a desk, tucked into a bookshelf, or left open on a coffee table.
Condition: Good vintage condition. Minor wear to the cover edges and significant foxing throughout, but binding remains sound and readable.
