Antique Late 19th Century Green Majolica Leaf Plate, Hope & Carter, Burslem

A richly detailed antique green majolica plate by Hope & Carter of Burslem, dating to the late 19th century. This plate is beautifully moulded with an abundance of leaves and flowers, raised in relief and finished in a deep emerald green glaze with wonderful depth and variation.

The surface decoration is full of movement and texture, curling stems, layered foliage and softly rounded petals, all brought to life by the glossy majolica glaze that pools into the recesses and catches the light across the raised forms.

Hope & Carter were active in Burslem, Staffordshire during the Victorian period and are particularly known for their richly coloured majolica wares. The plate is stamped to the reverse and would display beautifully on a wall, dresser or table. 

Condition: In great condition with no chips or cracks.
