Antique Tin Wall-Mounted Match Box Holder by Hudson Scott & Sons, c.1905

A beautifully timeworn early 20th-century wall-mounted match holder, made by Hudson Scott & Sons of Carlisle and stamped with Patent No. 18593, dating it to around 1905.

Crafted in tin with a warm, naturally aged patina, this practical little piece once held matches ready for lighting fires and lamps. The front features raised lettering reading “MATCHES” while the lower tray would have caught spent matches or been used for easy access.

It’s an evocative piece of domestic history, utilitarian yet full of charm, carrying the quiet beauty of everyday Edwardian design. Perfect styled by the hearth, in a kitchen, or hung beside a wood burner, adding instant character and authenticity to any vintage-inspired space.
