A wonderfully characterful Victorian stoneware ginger beer bottle, made by Bourne Denby for Campbell Praed & Co. Ltd., Wellingboro’. This piece still retains its original vulcanite stopper and metal securing wire, a rare survivor from the days when refreshment came in reusable, earth-toned vessels like this one.
Finished in a classic two-tone salt glaze, warm treacle brown over a creamy stone base, the bottle bears the striking Campbell Praed unicorn crest in bold black transfer. Originally used to bottle ginger beer, it now makes a beautiful shelf piece, single-stem vase, or a standout addition to a utilitarian stoneware collection.
Stamped Bourne Denby at the base, this is a tactile fragment of British domestic history, still brimming with presence and charm.
