A rare and joyful example of early folk craftsmanship, this handmade ceramic bird whistle likely dates to the 1920s–30s, though its roots may stretch further back into traditional artisan practices. Formed in a stylised bird shape with an open beak and rounded tail, it’s glazed in a vibrant yellow with a soft pink detail around the beak and expressive hand-painted eyes.
Blow through the tail and it still whistles—proving it’s both decorative and functional. The glaze has aged beautifully, with a fine craquelure and a tactile patina that speaks to decades of handling and love. Once used as a toy or festive whistle, it now shines as a joyful, sculptural object—perfect on a shelf, nestled into an Easter or seasonal vignette, or simply styled as a one-of-a-kind curio.
Soulful and full of warmth—this little bird has a story to sing.
