A beautifully hand-crafted vintage earthenware pot we believe to be from the Saar region of Germany, an area known for its rich ceramic heritage and a tradition that blends German folk art with French provincial influence. Sourced in a quiet market in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin.
Entirely hand-thrown and painted, this piece has a softly rounded form and a smooth, slightly glossy cream glaze. Decorative flourishes in deep cobalt and rust-red form stylised floral motifs on the body, lid, and sculptural arched handle, evoking traditional folk patterns often found in mid-century pottery from the region.
The base is unglazed and signed by the maker—an expressive, hand-inscribed mark that hints at its artisan origins. Though unconfirmed, we believe this piece likely hails from Saar, a border region with a long-standing tradition of small, independent potteries.
The pot’s integrated basket-style handle gives it a unique silhouette and a storybook charm. Glazed on the inside, it’s suitable for storing dry goods but also makes a delightful display piece on a shelf, dresser, or kitchen counter.
