This incredibly rare and utterly charming studio pottery jug by David & Louise Salsbury is a true celebration of slow living and craftsmanship. A dreamy depiction of ‘A Walk in the Mountains’, it’s a lovingly hand-thrown and hand-painted piece that feels more like a storybook come to life than a traditional jug.
Wrapped around its curved form is a gentle and calming mountain scene, complete with walkers in woolly hats and walking boots, traversing craggy paths with hiking poles and rucksacks. Nestled in the foreground, a rabbit peeks out from grassy rocks — a small but delightful detail that makes this jug feel alive with narrative. The palette is soft and natural, with gentle sky blues, earthy greens, and ochre tones that speak of crisp countryside air and quiet days outdoors.
The deep blue handle and sky-washed neck provide the perfect contrast to the illustrative detail below. Signed on the base by the artists David & Louise Salsbury with their signature bee motif and “Salsbury” inscription, the artist stamp is another added little artwork in itself.
Whether used as a vase for wildflowers or used for serving water or elderflower cordial, this jug is an exquisite art object in its own right, one that tells a story and brings warmth and character to any room. A true one of a kind treasure.
