An extraordinary piece of Welsh studio pottery from Bwthyn Pottery, Barmouth, a workshop that later evolved into the renowned Porthmadog Pottery. This plate is, without question, one of the most exquisite examples I’ve come across from this maker.
The design is breathtaking: a radiating floral form in deep cobalt, teal, and honeyed amber tones, with a glaze that pools and flows beautifully across the surface. The texture and depth of colour are simply stunning, displaying the distinctive artistry and experimental glaze work that make mid-century Welsh pottery so collectable today.
Dating from around the 1950s–1970s, this is a rare and highly decorative example from a beloved coastal pottery, a piece that captures both craftsmanship and a sense of place.
A truly special find for collectors of Welsh ceramics or anyone drawn to the beauty of hand-thrown, richly glazed studio work.
