Incredible Vintage Slipware Studio Pottery Tankard - Celadon Green & Deep Blue Glaze, Impressed Seal Marks

There are some pieces that simply hum with presence, and this is one of them. An incredible vintage studio pottery tankard, hand-thrown and richly glazed in the most perfect meeting of celadon green and deep inky blue. The surface moves beautifully in the light, glossy, fluid, almost tidal, with slip-trailed decoration dancing down each dark panel like constellations or sea spray caught mid-motion.

The form is generous and grounding, with a sculptural applied handle that feels wonderful in the hand. On the handle are two impressed seals: an X with four dots at the top, and a cross with dots below. Though I’ve been unable to identify the maker, these marks are intentional and symbolic, the work of an incredibly skilled studio potter with a strong visual language. 

The raw terracotta foot grounds the piece perfectly, a quiet reminder of the clay beneath the glaze.

Beautiful as a vase for fresh stems, It has that rare balance of strength and softness that makes studio pottery so special. A true one-of-a-kind find.
