Rare Antique Stoneware Bottle - H A Smith, Wine & Spirit Merchant, Newport

A beautiful antique stoneware bottle stamped for H A Smith, Newport, with a softly shouldered form and warm honey glaze fading into an off-white stoneware body. Pieces like this were once part of everyday trade, practical, robust, and made to last, and they carry that quiet sense of purpose still.

The typography and glaze give it a strong visual presence, whether styled on an open shelf, used as a vase for gathered stems, or simply left to stand on its own.

There is a hairline crack running along the back of the neck (see photos); it is stable with no movement and does not affect the integrity of the piece. It remains usable and displays beautifully, with the patina and wear adding to its character rather than detracting from it.
