A stunning and generously sized studio pottery planter by Monkleigh Pottery, founded by Richard Champion in North Devon. This striking piece features a fluid, abstract blue glaze reminiscent of sea spray against stone, an expressive brushstroke pattern that gives each angle a different aesthetic.
The form is beautifully organic, with a softly scalloped rim that adds movement and elegance. Made from sturdy stoneware clay and fully signed to the base with the distinctive MONKLEIGH stamp and impressed M, this piece likely dates to the 1970s/1980s, a period now increasingly sought-after by collectors.
Monkleigh Pottery is best known for hand-thrown forms and painterly surfaces, often taking cues from coastal landscapes and traditional English craft. Though floral motifs are common across their work, this abstract wave-like glaze makes this piece particularly rare and impactful.
