A rare and beautiful piece of mid-century Welsh studio pottery, hand-thrown and decorated at the iconic Betws-y-Coed Pottery in North Wales during the 1950s. This striking little mug is made in a deep cobalt blue glaze with white slip-trailed floral motifs, a classic design associated with the workshop’s most prolific period.
Founded in the late 1940s and run by potters including Margaret Campion, Olive Prichard, Marjorie and Tom Edwards (and later their sons), Betws-y-Coed Pottery quickly gained recognition for its folk-inspired decoration and distinctive glazes. Each piece was handmade and decorated by individual potters, meaning no two pieces are ever quite the same.
This particular mug has a lovely soft shape and a creamy white interior, perfect for morning coffee, or simply for display as part of a collection. It’s signed to the base with the original Betws-y-Coed mark and a little hand drawn fish, making it a wonderful find for collectors of Welsh or British studio pottery.
