Rare Vintage Danish Studio Pottery Chicken Trinket Box by Christina Prestgaard

This is such a special piece of studio pottery - beautifully made, wonderfully tactile and with the most brilliant hand-shaped chicken perched proudly on the lid. Made in Denmark by Christina Prestgaard, the amount of work in that little sculptural handle is gorgeous, right down to her curled tail, tiny beak and individually worked feathers.

The glaze is just as beautiful: soft oatmeal and cream across the domed lid, melting into smoky brown, charcoal and olive-toned glazes around the base, with all of those lovely variations you only really get from handmade pottery. 

It would be wonderful in the kitchen filled with flaky salt, herbs or spices, or used at the table for butter - although I think it’s far too lovely to put away between uses. Equally gorgeous on a coffee table or bedside table holding jewellery, shells and little collected treasures. 

A really joyful piece, but beautifully and skilfully made too - exactly the sort of studio pottery I love finding.
