A wonderful piece of Welsh studio pottery history, this mid-century slipware bowl was made in Llangollen by husband-and-wife potters Rhys and Jean Powell, whose work is now increasingly sought after for its warmth, craftsmanship, and unmistakable character.

Hand-thrown and decorated in the 1950s, the bowl features a rich chocolate-brown glaze layered over deep teal, finished with the Powells’ signature trailing slip design - a delicate pattern of creamy-white dots and lines that drape beautifully around the form. Inside, the glossy pale blue glaze gives the piece a serene, almost luminous quality.

Both decorative and functional, it’s a versatile piece for the home: perfect as a candle bowl, for seasonal styling, or displayed as part of a curated Welsh pottery collection. It has a lovely weight in the hand and the gentle, time-worn patina you’d expect from a cherished mid-century piece.

A true celebration of Welsh craft heritage - soulful, tactile, and beautifully made.
