This beautiful this handmade slipware letter rack was made by Cornish potter Heather Swain, whose work is becoming increasingly hard to come by. Known for her whimsical, painterly approach to studio ceramics, Swain’s pieces are both playful and beautifully crafted, with a charming rusticity that feels right at home in lived-in, loved spaces.

This particular piece features a line of four cows, each individually hand-sculpted and slip-trailed with soft, earthy glazes, from buttermilk white to black, grey, and golden ochre. They stand on a meadow-like base, complete with painted tufts of green grass, their gentle forms separated by narrow slots perfect for organising letters, postcards, napkins, or toast on the breakfast table.

The glaze is slightly glossy, the details delightfully wonky in the best way, a true example of handmade charm and a celebration of function meeting folk charm.
