A wonderful studio pottery bowl by Patricia (Pat) Higginbotham, featuring two small sculpted birds perched gently at the rim. Softly formed and full of charm, the piece balances thoughtful craftsmanship with a sense of playfulness that never feels overstated.
Thrown in a pale, calming glaze with a warm, honeyed interior, the bowl has a lovely weight and presence. The birds are delicately modelled, their simple forms adding both character and a quiet narrative to the piece, decorative yet entirely usable.
Patricia Higginbotham worked in Cheshire from the mid-1960s onwards, and her work is celebrated for its sensitivity, warmth, and gentle relationship with nature. This piece carries that spirit beautifully.
The bowl is in great vintage condition, with a tiny chip to one bird’s wing, commensurate with age and use and noted for accuracy (please see photographs.)
A soulful, well-made object, equally suited as a candle bowl, holding fruit or nuts, displaying treasured items, or simply sitting quietly on a shelf, catching the light.
