The tradition of Navy Days dates back to the 1920s when the Royal Dockyards were open to the public for “Navy Week”. These coal tongs were from a Navy Day formerly held at Rosyth Dockyard, which is now a Ministry of Defence site called MoD Caledonia, in Rosyth, Dunfermline, Scotland. We believe that these brass coal tongs were souvenirs from Rosyth’s Navy Day event to commemorate steam engines on ships. Such an interesting piece of Naval history.
