Such a lovely gardening book, Fruit for Small Gardens by D. S. Crowther - first published in 1949, with this copy being the 1951 reprint by W. H. & L. Collingridge Ltd.
Filled with wonderfully nostalgic black & white photographs and line drawings, covering everything from pruning and planting to growing apples, pears, stone fruits and berries in smaller gardens. I especially love the simple green cloth-bound cover with its deep red lettering, the sort of book that looks just as beautiful sitting on a kitchen shelf as it is interesting to flick through.
There is some foxing and age-related marking, particularly to the cloth cover, which we think only adds to its character and tells a little of its 75-year history. Otherwise a lovely vintage copy with plenty of life left in it.
A beautiful little piece of gardening history for the gardener, allotment keeper or collector of old country books.
