A beautifully hand-thrown vintage studio pottery jug, crafted at Birkenhead Park Pottery in the 1970s by Glynn Ward, working alongside fellow potter Stan Johnson (whose SJ stamp can be found impressed to the base, alongside the EPP stamp)
The jug has a timeless form with a softly rounded body, flared rim, and pulled handle, finished in a pale speckled glaze. Sweeping hand-painted brushstrokes in soft blue dance across the surface, creating a fluid abstract motif that feels both natural and modern. The varying shades of blue, from delicate, watery washes to deeper painterly strokes give the piece a serene, rhythmic quality that is beautifully complemented by the earthy glaze beneath. The rim is detailed with darker mottled flecks, adding depth and contrast.
Functional yet decorative, this piece is perfectly sized for flowers, kitchen table use, or displayed as part of a pottery collection. A wonderful example of British studio pottery heritage from the thriving Merseyside craft scene of the 1970s.
