An exceptionally beautiful vintage studio pottery bottle vase, hand-thrown and fired using the Raku technique, resulting in a surface rich with movement, depth and quiet drama.
The glaze is a painterly blend of inky blues, soft sea-greens and warm, earthy ochres, layered over a crackled raku surface that feels deeply reminiscent of the sea - shifting tides, weathered stone, and light moving across water. There is a sense of coastline here: salt-worn textures, mineral tones, and the natural unpredictability of the elements.
No two areas are the same. Smoky undertones, gentle crackle and fluid bands of colour speak to the alchemical nature of raku firing, where fire, air and timing leave their mark.
The form is softly balanced and organic, with a narrowing neck and rounded body that feels both grounded and fluid. It works beautifully with a few gathered stems or coastal foliage, but is equally striking left empty as a sculptural object - calm, anchoring, and full of presence.
A true one-of-a-kind piece, made slowly and intentionally by hand, expressive, tactile, and deeply atmospheric.
