This is such a beautiful piece - the glaze immediately reminded me of the sea, with layers of cobalt blue, inky navy and mossy green running into one another around the top.
The glaze has been allowed to drip freely down over the soft white body, creating these wonderful uneven, almost scalloped edges, while the lower section has been left in the natural pale clay. I love that contrast between the glossy, saturated glaze and the quiet raw stoneware underneath. Even the handle is completely swept up in the blue and green glaze, with each side of the mug looking slightly different.
It has a lovely rounded, generous shape and feels wonderfully substantial in the hand - very much a mug you’d want to reach for every morning.
Stamped ‘JP’ to the base. I haven’t been able to identify the potter, but it’s a beautifully accomplished piece of studio pottery and the glaze really is something special.
