Vintage Fajalauza Granada Pottery Pestle & Mortar

A beautiful example of traditional Fajalauza pottery, this vintage ceramic pestle and mortar was made in Granada, Spain, where artisans have been crafting tin-glazed earthenware since the 16th century.

It features classic hand-painted motifs in rich cobalt blue and leafy green, framed by hand painted blue and green brushstrokes around the rim. Both functional and decorative, the mortar has a satisfying weight to it, ideal for grinding spices or herbs the slow way, and just as lovely styled on an open shelf or rustic kitchen counter.

The glaze has the charming irregularities typical of hand-thrown studio pieces, and the pestle (original to the piece) has a pleasingly sculptural form.
