Vintage Folk Art Cobalt Blue Brushstroke Studio Pottery Fruit Bowl

Blue and white studio pottery always catches my eye and this wonderful bowl is just so beautiful. 

Hand-thrown and full of movement, the surface is alive with expressive cobalt brushstrokes, loose, painterly, almost tidal, layered over a soft, off-white ground. It feels instinctive, like it was made in a moment, each mark left exactly as it wanted to be. The inside swirls gently toward the centre, echoing the rhythm of the wheel, while the outer body carries those same sweeping strokes right the way around.

A beautiful, generous size, perfect as a fruit bowl, for serving salads and pasta when alfresco dining or simply left out as a centrepiece, it’s one of those pieces that quietly holds a space. The unglazed base shows the maker’s hand clearly, with a simple incised mark adding to its one-of-a-kind charm.

I’m always drawn to blue and white studio pottery, but this one feels especially special, bold yet soft, rustic yet considered, and completely unique.
