Vintage French Studio Pottery Escargot Dish

A wonderfully tactile French studio pottery escargot dish, glazed in soft earthy tones with painterly blue leaf decoration and rustic speckling, just gorgeous!  Traditionally used for serving escargot, this versatile piece lends itself beautifully to contemporary life, perfect as a tealight holder, egg dish, or for serving individual portions of sauces, oils, or sea salt, a beautiful addition to a dinner party. 

The eight rounded wells are framed by a warm-toned glaze with incised heart-shaped details around the rim. The back reveals a maker’s mark and rich, textural glazing. There are a few tiny chips to the glaze around the edge (see photos), but nothing that detracts from its charm or usability, just the gentle signs of a piece that’s been loved.

A unique and functional object with endless styling potential, especially lovely for slow evenings and tablescapes with a French countryside feel.
