Vintage German Slipware ‘Oma’ / ‘Granny’ Mug & Saucer

There’s something so tender about this piece, a handmade studio pottery mug and saucer, created in Germany and lovingly inscribed “Oma”, the German word for grandmother or granny. It has that deep, comforting feeling of something treasured and used often, the kind of mug that lived on a kitchen shelf beside a tin of biscuits and a pot of herbal tea.

The glaze is a rich midnight blue, contrasted beautifully with warm cream slip-trailed florals that dance around the mug and sit quietly on the saucer. The inside is glazed in a soft pale cream, giving it that cosy charm that only slipware really captures. The handle is satisfyingly rounded, and the whole set feels wonderfully weighty in the hands, sturdy, tactile, and full of heart.
