Vintage Italian Hand-Painted Poppies Studio Pottery Jug

An absolutely incredible vintage Italian pottery jug, beautifully hand-painted with huge, blowsy red poppies and layers of rich green foliage against the softest mottled sky-blue ground. The painting is what makes piece so special wonderfully loose and expressive up close, with visible brushstrokes, little changes in colour and thickness, and a gorgeous almost stippled texture running across the body and handle. It has so much depth and life to it.

The generous rounded shape is just as beautiful, with its sweeping handle and gently flared pouring lip. It’s a real statement piece and looks glorious filled with eucalyptus, branches or a huge bunch of garden flowers.

Stamped ‘Made in Italy’ and ‘Past Times’ to the base. Past Times was the much-loved British high-street retailer founded by John Beale in the 1980s, known for its beautifully chosen, handmade homewares and gifts.
