Vintage Large Studio Pottery Hand-Painted Blue Floral Jug

An absolutely incredible vintage studio pottery jug, and such a beautiful example of the sort of piece I’m always hoping to find.

Hand-thrown in a warm, sandy stoneware clay with a soft speckled cream glaze around the rim and handle. The real beauty is the large hand-painted panel to the front on both sides, a wonderfully loose little blue flower with fine earthy brown stems, almost like a botanical sketch painted straight onto the pot.

It has a lovely full-bellied shape, gently flared pouring rim and a beautifully generous looped handle, with the throwing lines still visible beneath the glaze. There’s something very quiet and natural about the whole piece; the soft oatmeal clay, chalky cream and faded blue work so beautifully together.

A substantial piece of studio pottery that looks just as wonderful filled with a beautiful bunch of garden flowers as it does standing alone on a shelf.

A really special one-off find.
