A hand-thrown Mediterranean earthenware jar with the most beautiful, timeworn surface, this really has the most wonderful natural patina. The buff clay body bears traces of a soft pink limewash, applied long ago and now gently faded and flaked to reveal the warm tones beneath. Around the rim, a deeper terracotta red band adds a quiet touch of detail, paired with a delicate beaded motif impressed just below the lip.

Likely originating from a Greek island or southern Italy, jars like this were made for everyday household storage, olives, herbs, or pickled vegetables, before being repurposed for decorative use. Its glazed interior and unglazed base, with visible wheel-turning rings, speak to a long tradition of village pottery.

It makes a stunning vessel for cut flowers or simply a beautiful object in its own right, full of rustic charm and Mediterranean warmth. It’s watertight so makes the perfect vase.
