Vintage Mediterranean Studio Pottery Hand-Painted Floral Jug

Such a beautiful handmade Mediterranean studio pottery jug, with the softest creamy glaze and trailing hand-painted flowers in lilac and fresh leafy green. I love how loose and painterly the decoration is - you can see the individual brushstrokes in the leaves and petals, and because it has all been painted by hand the pattern changes as you turn the jug around.

The shape is gorgeous too, with a generous rounded body, gently drawn-in waist, long curved handle and a little hand-shaped pouring lip. A band of soft green runs around the rim and finishes it perfectly. It has that wonderfully relaxed Mediterranean feel, especially filled with bright garden flowers.

It would make such a lovely everyday vase, but it’s equally beautiful and practical used as it was intended, for water at the table.

Vintage condition: Being handmade, it has some lovely little quirks from its making. There is an imperfection in the clay at the front of the foot which happened during the making/firing process, along with a few small areas around the rim where the glaze hasn’t quite covered. Neither affects its use - I think those little traces of the making process only add to its beautiful tactile charm.
