Vintage Midcentury Hand-Carved Black Onyx Hippo Sculpture

This beautiful vintage hippopotamus has been lovingly hand-carved from black onyx, with the most wonderfully simple shape and the sweetest little carved details.

I particularly love the contrast between his rounded, playful form and the beautiful deep black stone, with its subtle natural variations and polished finish.
