This is such a beautiful piece of vintage studio pottery, wonderfully earthy, sculptural and full of those little details that make handmade pottery so special.
The body has been thrown in a softly rounded form with visible throwing lines still running around the surface, then finished in the most gorgeous deep olive green glaze with subtle brown and mossy tones moving through it. I love the way the glaze stops short at the base too, leaving that warm sandy clay exposed and giving the whole piece such a lovely contrast.
The lid is finished with fine rusty red and brown bands, and then there is that incredible tall bamboo handle, tied neatly into the ceramic lugs at either side. It gives the teapot such a strong mid-century feel and makes it just as beautiful as an object as it is practical to use.
There is something particularly lovely about a teapot like this sitting out in the kitchen, substantial, beautifully made and completely individual. A gorgeous piece for slow pots of tea, but equally one I’d be very happy simply admiring on an open shelf.
