Vintage Solid Brass Fly Trinket Box, Novelty Ashtray

Such a special little piece, slightly unusual, a little playful, and beautifully made.

This vintage solid brass fly was originally designed as a novelty ashtray, but I think it’s so much more lovely reimagined as a small trinket box. The wings lift to reveal a hidden compartment, perfect for holding tiny treasures, rings, matches, coins, or those little found objects you can’t part with.

The detailing is just gorgeous, from the softly etched wings to the rounded body and delicate legs. It has a lovely weight to it too, and that warm, aged brass patina that gives it so much character.

I absolutely love pieces like this styled on a coffee table or nestled amongst plants, something a little unexpected that makes you look twice. It feels like the kind of object you’d find in an old curiosity cabinet, quietly holding its own story.

A really charming, tactile piece that’s both decorative and useful in the most gentle, understated way.
