Vintage Solid Brass Match Holder

This absolutely beautiful solid brass match holder is one of those rare, functional finds that feels completely at home in a modern space. Likely dating from the early to mid 20th century, it would have once hung beside the hearth, always close at hand, always in use.

The embossed flame and match design on the front is full of character, and the warm patina the brass has developed over time gives it that quiet richness that only age can bring.

I’ve styled it simply with a vintage matchbox and a few loose matches, but I also love the idea of tucking in a small posy of fresh or dried flowers, a sprig of rosemary, or even a beeswax taper or two. These kinds of pieces invite small rituals and moments of slowness, lighting candles at dusk, or winding down on a cosy summer evening.
