Vintage Studio Pottery Blue Drip Glaze Jug with Shell Seal

An utterly beautiful piece of studio pottery, one that feels as though it’s been shaped by the sea itself.

The form is softly rounded and ever so slightly irregular, with that gentle, craftsmanship that makes studio pottery so special. It sits comfortably in the hand, with a perfectly balanced pouring lip and the most lovely detail of all, a subtle thumb rest on the handle, one of those small, thoughtful additions that you don’t notice at first, but come to appreciate every time you use it.

The glaze is where it truly comes alive. Layers of deep cobalt and soft, washed blues drift across the surface, pooling and blending like tide lines on wet sand. There’s a beautiful sense of movement to it, almost like watercolour or ink carried by water, no two sides quite the same. It feels coastal, calm, and quietly expressive.

Stamped with an ‘H’ and a delicate shell seal beneath the handle, though I’ve been unable to attribute it to a specific maker. That said, it has all the hallmarks of a thoughtful, well-crafted studio piece, made with care and instinct rather than uniformity.

Perfect as a creamer or absolutely lovely styled with fresh stems, where the blues seem to echo the natural world around it.
