A beautiful vintage studio pottery jug by David Morris of Laceby Pottery, dating to from the 1960s–1980s.
David Morris made pottery in Grimsby from the 1960s and in 1976 moved to Louth making beautiful pieces like this until 1987.
Hand-thrown in Lincolnshire, this piece carries the impressed dh | LP mark to the handle, David Morris for Laceby Pottery, a lovely little detail that becomes part of the charm of this beautiful floral jug.
The glaze is everything I adore: a soft, speckled oatmeal stoneware base with the most perfect cobalt blue banding and hand-painted floral garland wrapping around the body. The brushwork is loose and confident, with little dotted details beneath the flowers that give it such warmth and movement.
The shape is beautiful too, a gently flared body, pedestal foot, and that wonderful sculptural handle with fluted detailing. It sits perfectly in the hand and it absolutely beautiful filled with fresh flowers.
