Vintage Studio Pottery Cat Sculpture - Burnham Pottery, Wells (1973)

This studio pottery cat sculpture is utterly charming! Rounded, content, and quietly watchful with the most adorable little face.

Handmade and stamped to the base Burnham Pottery, Wells, 1973, this beautiful feline carries all the warmth and individuality of true 1970s British studio pottery. The glaze is a soft, creamy white, scattered with painterly periwinkle-blue floral motifs that are both playful and gentle. Each brushstroke is slightly irregular, a reminder of the careful hand that made it. 

The expression is what truly makes it. Wide, curious eyes. Fine whisker lines. Tiny upright ears. It has such personality without being overly sweet, just quietly characterful.

The form is lovely and weighty, with subtle throwing rings visible beneath the glaze and softly defined paws at the base. 

A beautiful decorative piece for cat lovers, or lovers of beautiful one of a kind ceramics. 

Vintage condition: in great condition, there’s a small hole on the side which was an irregularity that happened in the making process (please see photos)
