Vintage Studio Pottery Salt Glaze Full Moon Jug • A Vessel for the Changing Seasons

This beautiful vintage studio pottery jug is such a special find, with its wonderfully earthy salt glaze, warm chocolate brown and soft speckled cream tones, it captures beautiful rolling hills and a full moon shining bright over the landscape. 

I love the thought of this jug becoming a vessel for the changing seasons. A little monthly ritual of gathering seasonal stems, branches and flowers from nature with each passing full moon, allowing its contents to change throughout the year. Rosehips in autumn, bare winter branches, the first blossom of spring and wildflowers gathered on summer walks.

Twelve little opportunities to celebrate the passing seasons, bringing a little of the outside in and finding beauty in whatever nature has to offer.

Pieces just like this are what I’m always searching for when choosing treasures for Hiraeth. Beautiful old things to collect slowly, treasure for years and fall in love with over and over again. Each changing season offering a new perspective, a different corner of the home and another reason to appreciate them.

A beautiful example of studio pottery, with a wonderfully tactile, hand-crafted form, generous handle and pouring spout. The jug bears a maker’s stamp beneath the handle, although despite my research, I haven’t yet been able to identify the potter.

A little vessel for the seasons, and all the beautiful things they bring.
