A truly exceptional vintage slipware jug, hand-painted with an abstract oak leaf motif and finished in the most beautiful, layered blue and green glazes. Entirely one of a kind, this is a piece that feels alive with movement, gesture, and the unmistakable presence of the maker’s hand.
Thrown in terracotta clay, the jug has a warm, earthy weight beneath the glaze, grounding the expressive decoration. The slip-painted oak leaves sweep confidently around the form, their painterly brushstrokes sitting proudly against a deep, verdant green ground and rich cobalt blue accents. The colours pool, overlap, and break softly at the edges, a hallmark of true slipware, where no two firings are ever the same.
The form itself is generous and tactile, with a softly pinched spout and a comfortable, well-balanced handle. It works beautifully as a functional jug, but is just as striking used as a vase or displayed as a sculptural object on an open shelf.
This is the kind of piece that can’t be repeated, a singular moment in clay and glaze, rooted in folk tradition yet utterly timeless.
