A beautiful vintage studio pottery jug, thrown in a warm two-tone glaze and finished with hand-applied polka dot decoration around the shoulder.
The upper section is glazed in a soft mustard yellow, gently speckled and glossy, sitting above a deep, iron-rich brown body with subtle variation and depth. The contrast between the two glazes feels both grounded and playful, with the simple dot motif lending a quiet, folk-art sensibility. A comfortably shaped handle and softly flared lip make this a jug that feels as good in the hand as it looks on the shelf.
The base bears a maker’s seal stamp, though despite research the potter remains unidentified, a reminder of the many skilled studio makers working quietly across the UK and Europe throughout the mid-to-late 20th century. It’s a piece that speaks through form and finish rather than name alone.
Perfect styled with dried flowers, or displayed among other studio pottery, this is a timeless, honest piece with plenty of soul.
