A wonderfully atmospheric piece of Welsh studio pottery from Abaty Pottery, Cardiganshire, finished in one of the most unusual colourways I’ve come across.

Rather than the earthy browns more commonly associated with Abaty, this beautiful large jug has a deep charcoal glaze softly brushed with warm stone tones, while subtle flashes of blue emerge through the surface, becoming richer and more vibrant around the rim. The effect is beautifully organic, changing with the light and giving the piece so much depth and character.

Its generous proportions, hand-thrown form and comfortable loop handle make it equally at home holding a bunch of freshly cut flowers or simply sitting on a shelf to be admired. It has that unmistakable quiet presence that only handmade pottery seems to possess.

A beautiful and increasingly hard-to-find example of Welsh studio pottery, celebrating the craftsmanship and earthy beauty that made Abaty Pottery so well loved.
